Landlubber to Sea Dog

With a surname like Becque (just say “Beck” with a dash of French flair), you might think I hail from the streets of Paris, but surprise – I’m as English as they come!

In 1986, armed with nothing but my charm, I set sail for the Caribbean, diving headfirst into the world of cruising as an entertainer. Turns out, my brand of enthusiasm was just what the passengers wanted; they couldn’t get enough of me! That giant slice of showbiz life didn’t just spice up my CV – it totally flipped the script on how I see the world. After serving a two-year apprenticeship, at the ripe age of twenty-two, I found myself crowned as the world’s youngest Cruise Director.

After a fabulous six-year stint on the high seas, I traded my sea legs for sandals and set off for a sun-soaked year of adventures in Miami and Mexico. But the plot thickens! Next stop: Los Angeles, where I honed my craft at the American Academy of Dramatic Art. Post-graduation, I dove into the world of theatre, lighting up the stage in productions like “Wuthering Heights” and “Miss Julie,” and even got to sprinkle a little of my magic on a couple of Universal Studios projects. I was living the dream, soaking up every electrifying minute of it. Los Angeles stole a piece of my heart, and I pop back every chance I get!

Shipmates to Soulmates

Back in ’96, with Hollywood stardust still in my eyes, I jetted off to Greece on a mission: to troubleshoot a new shipping project for Renaissance Cruises. Armed with my newly acquired inspiration from ‘Tinsel Town’ I was able to elevate my entertainment career-at-sea to new heights and soon achieved unprecedented results for four cruise lines. I was challenged by new and longer itineraries, which culminated in a sixty-day circumnavigation of South America aboard the classic liner “Stella Solaris”.

Riding high on a wave of triumphs, I landed a gig with the “Seawing” under Sun Cruises, my first cruise line dedicated to British passengers. Picture this: a cosy vessel brimming with 800 adventure-seekers, where the crew’s mantra was total success or walk the gang-plank. And the entertainment? Nothing short of miraculous, given our shoestring budget. It was like hosting a blockbuster party every night on the high seas!

The guests were over the moon—deck parties under the stars, mouth-watering feasts, and itineraries that dreams are made of. We didn’t just cruise; we created epic tales of joy and laughter. Amidst this floating festival, fate played its sweetest chord. I met Helen, my partner in crime and soul mate. Aboard that modest ship, we set sail on life’s greatest adventure together. Ah, “Seawing,” you little ship of dreams, you had it all!

Anchors to Airwaves

Two spins around the sun later, while adventuring through the Far East, an unexpected plot twist landed in my inbox – an invite to Miami for a rendezvous with Cunard’s Head of Entertainment. Fast forward a few heartbeats and bam! I’m at the helm of the world-renowned “QE2” and the majestic “Queen Mary 2” during her spotlight-stealing inaugural year. Picture this: me, hitting the high seas’ version of the entertainment jackpot, rubbing elbows with the stars, grilling VIPs in the most swanky settings, all aboard the floating equivalent of Hollywood. It was like setting sail on a blockbuster movie set, where every day was a premiere and every port a red-carpet event. Oh, what a ride!

After eighteen whirlwind years of globetrotting glamour, reaching the zenith of the cruising cosmos, I decided to swap the high seas for high-stakes family-time and the dazzling world of television. Think of it as hanging up my captain’s hat to don a director’s chair, with a script featuring diaper changes, school runs, and the thrilling unpredictability of the small screen. From commanding the deck to commanding the remote – my adventure’s sequel is set in the cosy, yet chaotic comfort of home, with commercial breaks!

Bid tv

Screen Time to Prime Time

Back in 2005, riding high from my TV appearances on ntl, itv1, and Sky, I leaped into the exciting world of “Bid tv,” joining an award-winning squad that knew how to sell the sizzle and the steak! Suddenly, I was the face of seventeen hours of live, adrenaline-pumping television each week, charming viewers and convincing them they absolutely needed another set of steak knives. My zeal for the sell wasn’t just about moving thousands of products; it was a rocket fuel that propelled me up the ranks, landing me the coveted title of Head of Channel.

As Christmas 2012 rolled around, I had an epiphany – my life needed a serious injection of freedom and a hefty dose of creativity. So, I thought, “Why not go freelance and see where this wild ride takes me?” I waved goodbye to “Bid” and jumped headfirst into a kaleidoscope of change and uncertainty. Fortunately, my career was like a box of chocolates – full of sweet surprises.

Embracing the freelance life opened up a Pandora’s box of unexpected opportunities and suddenly, I was spinning plates like a circus performer! I had a variety of presenting gigs, bashed out voiceovers from my home studio, trained up-and-coming presenters and launched a mindset coaching company. Stepping out of the 9-to-5 proved to be the start of my entrepreneurial odyssey
